Dell ends iPhone sync and screen mirroring on Windows

Dell is ending its Mobile Connect program, which allows users to sync calls, texts and notifications from their iPhone with their computer. Although it works with both iPhone and Android, some of these features have only just come to iPhone.

According The edge, Dell will stop downloads on November 30 for users in the US, Canada and Japan. Dell Mobile Connect will no longer be available to users starting January 31, 2023. Users in all other countries will experience the shutdown sooner, as downloads will stop on July 31 and the app will be discontinued on November 30.

From the Dell support page:

Dell recommends uninstalling Dell Mobile Connect or Alienware Mobile Connect from your Dell computer and mobile devices before the regional shutdown date. This frees up storage space and ensures an optimal device experience.

How to uninstall Mobile Connect from your Dell:

  • Go to Start, Settings > Apps > Apps & Features
  • Select Dell Mobile Connect, then tap Uninstall

9to5Mac’s take on Dell’s iPhone sync end

Dell hasn’t explained why it’s discontinued its iPhone and Android sync service. This is unfortunate for users who rely on this service to make their workflow more efficient for work, school, home, etc. However, there are other options for those who will miss Mobile Connect. The edge mentions another program, Screenovate, which allows consumers to synchronize their PC with an Android, an iPhone and a smartwatch. Although the capability is not yet available, it will roll out to Intel Evo devices later in 2022.
