With the new and improved privacy dashboard in Android 13, the Android ecosystem is evolving its privacy protection. Android advances in building a refined, responsible and high-quality platform through its secure environment and gives more control to the end user. Some of the privacy-focused features include features like photo picker and allow nearby devices for Wi-Fi, etc.
The all-new photo picker in the UI
Users can now feel safer when uploading a specific photo or video file to any online platform. This new photo picker introduces a new feature that introduces the new recommended way to request access to photos and videos. It allows apps to play selected images and videos without permission. Therefore, apps can’t just take a random peek through your entire gallery. Selectable media includes both device storage and cloud storage providers such as Google Photos. Users can simply browse media by categories and albums.
Nearby device permission for Wi-Fi
This feature will allow apps to discover and connect to nearby devices over Wi-Fi without needing location permission. This will protect your geo-privacy to some extent. This is a great feature when it comes to being more privacy-focused for people who had to share location due to location permission requirements.
Android 13 continues the legacy of Material You. It is now functional in all system application icons. It makes the user interface simpler and more mature.
Application specific language preference
Android 13 now supports app-specific language support. This allows users to configure an app-specific language according to the individual app. This means you can now run App A in Hindi and App B in English seamlessly.
Improved app compatibility
With Android 13, Google aims to make updates faster and smoother by prioritizing app compatibility for new platform versions. There would be more updates through Google Play, a better experience on foldable, tablet and Chromebook, and more user-friendly experiences across all platforms.
